Reilly Cup Rules for 2017

"No Protests" will be entertained.
Umpires on field decision will be final.

  1. All rounds utilize "2017 Final Regular Season Standings" to determine tournament seeding

  2. Normal OTHG Rules apply for "Standings/Seedings" and tournament play, in addition to and modified by those listed below

  3. New for 2016/17: Six rounds to the tournament w/ "Single Elimination" first round and "Double Elimination" for rounds two through six. A complete round has been eliminated from the tournament this year

  4. Top 4 Seeded Teams get "Round 1 Bye" and start in Round 2 of the Reilly Cup

  5. No more than 4 games per round and up to 19 games played for the whole Reilly Cup

  6. Teams can play from 4 games (best path through brackets) to 8 games (worst path through brackets) and still win Reilly Cup

  7. Two rounds exist where a team will play two games in one evening (Round 5 and possibly Round 6 Finals)

  8. Higher Seeded team is the home team for each game throughout the tournament, whether coming from Winners' Bracket or Losers' Bracket.

  9. For Finals Only: As per Sep 8th, 2009 Manager's Meeting, teams voted unanimously that the team that enters the Finals "from the Winner's Bracket" is the home team for the FIRST game, regardless of their seed ranking.  If a second game is necessary, then the higher seeded team is the home team for that game.

  10. A round must complete for the next round to occur (because of high/low seed match ups)

    1. 5 out of 6 Rounds are scheduled for Fridays, one Round on Tuesday. WEATHER can affect this schedule

    2. Website Schedule will be updated as soon as all results are submitted

    3. You should know your next game by Saturday or Sunday the latest, barring rainouts and other events

  11. 60' Field Assignment

    1. Earliest game available given to highest seed game remaining in WINNERs' bracket

    2. Next game given to next highest seed game remaining in WINNERs' bracket

    3. When no WINNERs' bracket games remain, move to highest seed in LOSERs' bracket

    4. IF circumstances have forced multiple rounds to occur on the same night, previous round field and time assignments can take precedence over current round assignments (Clarified 9/2012)

  12. 90' Field Assignment

    1. Earliest game available given to highest seed game remaining in WINNERs' bracket

    2. Next game given to next highest seed game remaining in WINNERs' bracket

    3. When no WINNERs' bracket games remain, move to highest seed in LOSERs' bracket, etc

    4. IF circumstances have forced multiple rounds to occur on the same night, previous round field and time assignments can take precedence over current round assignments (Clarified 9/2012)

  13. Field Assignments are SUBJECT TO CHANGE by the OTHG Board

  14. A Round might contain just Winners' bracket games, Losers' bracket games or both

    1. Each Winners' Bracket Game pairs remaining highest versus remaining lowest seeded teams currently in the Winners' bracket

    2. Each Losers' Bracket Game pairs remaining highest versus remaining lowest seeded teams currently in the LOSERs' bracket

    3. Exception is the finals where Winners' Bracket Team faces LOSERs' Bracket Team

  15. Rain Outs/Weather could force make up play on various nights of the week, not just Tuesdays or Fridays

    1. You may need to PLAY multiple games in a week or even a night due to weather

    2. Dates, times and fields are subject to change due to weather and field availability

  16. All games will have a winner and loser, no TIEs

  17. Rounds 1 through 3 will have a 1 hour and 20 minute Time Limit Rule

    1. This rule is in effect for all games on any field, even if there is no game immediately following you or free time exists between scheduled games

    2. If tied after 1:20, game is continued as if in extra innings despite actual inning of game

    3. Home team always bats in extra inning situations

    4. During game, if umpire determines a team is intentionally stalling a game, he may extend it within reason

  18. Rounds 4 through 6 will have games played until completion, BUT...

    1. OTHG Board can reestablish Time Limit Rule in any/all Games/Rounds of 4, 5 and 6 if situation, scheduling, weather, permits, etc require this action

  19. Games that are postponed for any reason that have not reached official game length shall be rescheduled and replayed in their entirety

  20. Run Rule is in effect for all games

  21. Winning team of Winners' Bracket round 4 will skip Round 5 and may have one week off until the Reilly Cup Finals/round 6 (clarified 9/2012)

  22. Round 5 is comprised of 2 games played consecutively, usually on the same evening (clarified 9/2014)

    1. The first game is comprised of the two winning teams that advanced from the Round 4 Loser's Bracket

    2. The team that wins the above game will play a second game against the team that lost from the Round 4 Winner's Bracket. The winner of this game will go to the Reilly Cup Finals/round 6.

  23. Winners' Bracket sees a new team each game.  Exception may be finals round

  24. Losers' Bracket could play same team twice during Rounds 1 through 5 and will definitely want to play twice in Round 6... The Reilly Cup Finals

  25. Need five Fridays and one Tuesday to complete the Reilly Cup

The following "Grid View" is an example of what may happen in the tournament.
TOP = Winners' Bracket, BOTTOM = Losers' Bracket

Follow the 2nd Seed and 5th Seed Teams through the grid into the finals.  2nd Seed wins this example
Note how each bracket matches Highest and Lowest Seeded teams every time
