After an entire regular season without a single rainout, the last two rounds of the playoffs were postponed three times due to the weather.
On October 16th, the rain finally held out and the Over the Hill Gang finals were ready to roll. It was a beautiful and crisp night when Bethpage Pharmacy (managed by Steve Jacobson) met Legends on Broadway (managed by Don Carlin) for the 40th Anniversary version of the OTHG fall classic. Legends needed only one win to clinch the Championship and they didn't waste any time jumping up 1-0 on a home run by Josh Malone in the first inning. It was the second inning that proved to be the back-breaker for Bethpage. Legends sent up 16 batters taking a 13-0 lead and they never looked back. It was very fitting that the game was within two weeks of Halloween as the 2 through 5 hitters for Legends had monster nights at the plate. Led by Vinny Vega (3 HRs, 6RBIs), the foursome also included Steve Fanelli (2 HRs, 4 RBIs), Josh Malone (4 for 4 and hit for the cycle) and Lenny Balestrieri (3 for 4 and 2 RBIs). Gary Innes, with the most "experience" on the team, also pitched in for 3 hits including a triple in the big second inning. Legends exploded for 38 hits on the night with all 13 members recording at least one hit taking the Championship by a score of 27-7.
