7:00pm - McCourt & Trudden versus Paradox Café - 60ft field

McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home and Paradox Café kicked off the Over the Hill Gang Reilly Cup tournament 2011 this past Friday evening. Both teams had come off a recent 17-17 tie a few weeks ago and were looking for an early win in the double elimination tournament.

M&T threatened immediately as they loaded the bases in the first inning but luck was shining on Paradox as they only scored 1 run. M&T added a second run in the second going ahead 2-0. Paradox then had a rally to score 5 runs. Bob Thompson and James Mignone came through with clutch RBI hits. M&T did not stop scoring though and a 3 run home run over the center field fence put them ahead 9-7 in the 5th inning. Continuing to apply pressure, Paradox bounced back with another 5 runs in their half of the 5th as Don Carlin and Brian Mulcahey stroked RBI singles. Walter Hasemann then blasted a triple for 2 RBIs. In the 7th, Steve Finelli added a “disappearing moon shot” home run to center field and Paradox had a 14-11 lead heading into the 9th inning. M&T had been coming back all night and the first batter up hit a line drive to center field. As the ball dove to the ground, so did Don Carlin, who came up with a sliding catch to get the first out. The next batter singled and a then the game ended on a double play ball to Gary Innes. Paradox wrapped up a 14-11 victory to move on to Round 2 of the Reilly Cup.
