A Changing Times versus Moby make up was scheduled for Thu, Aug 18th. They were unable to play on the original date of May 27th, 2011. Unfortunately, this make up date was rained out and the season will finish without this game being played. All other games were played on May 27th and the submitted articles can be read below.
Barco continued their resurgent play in beating M&T 19-12 for their third consecutive win. M&T jumped out to an early lead with two in the 1st but Barco fought back going up 5-2 after three. Russ Graham continued his torrid hitting driving in two with a bases full single followed by Kevin Moloney’s sac fly and Dave Saur’s RBI triple. Barco opened up their lead with ten runs in the 4th to go up 15-4 at that point. The big blow in the inning was Russ Graham’s grand slam (his 2nd on the year). Also having RBI hits were James Widmer, Dennis Ryan, Dave Saur, Bob Bergsten and Rick Pedone. M&T made it close with a seven run 5th before Barco iced the game with four in the 8th on RBI hits from Dennis Ryan (HR), Dave Ringer, Kevin Moloney and Bill White. The win evened Barco’s record at 3-3.
Paradox Cafe needed a bounce back week after 2 tough losses in a row and squared off against LaCorte Family Auto in the middle game on the 60 foot field.
The old saying that "a walk is as good as a hit" set the tone for the evening as Al Celeste opened the game with a base on balls. After a triple in the gap by Mitch Maghakian, Steve Finelli blasted his third lead off homer of the year. By the 3rd inning, Paradox was behind the 8 ball with LaCorte leading 11-9. The fourth inning had the flood gates open as 5 walks led to 8 runs - including Walt "Eagle Eye" Hasemann who had his 2nd out of 3 walks on the night. Finelli was on as he stroked his second shot of the night (for 3 runs) over the right center field fence and plugged the middle as he pitched and turned a double play from second base. Don "Freight Train" Carlin chipped in with 2 walks and an outstanding diving catch in center field that set the defensive tone for Paradox this evening. Lenny Balestrieri went 4 for 4 and had a nice back hand deep in the hole at short to end an inning. Paradox would not give up the lead the rest of the night and had a total of 17 walks on the evening. Rookie James Mignone had a single with the bases loaded to extend a fifth inning rally and Paradox closed the game out in the 7th inning with 3 more walks and 7 runs scored. Lyle Nigro continued his hot hitting with a two run double and Gary Innes, Mickey Newbeck and Brian Mulcahy each knocked a single to finish off the game. Welcome back to Tony Scime as he comes off the injured reserve list and had two walks and two runs scored. The final score was Paradox Cafe 27-15 over LaCorte Family Auto
Autocraft and Zwanger had a real barnburner this week with Autocraft winning by the score of 22-21. The lead changed several times all game. It came down to Autocraft having a 5 run lead in the top of the 7th inning (the last inning). Zwanger came up and put 7 runs across to take a 2 run lead into the bottom of the 7th. With two outs, Autocraft scored two runs for the win on a single by Chris Piccininni. There was plenty of action with so many runs scored for Autocraft. The big blasts were homers off the bats of Bob Huebner, Brian Landy (whose shot to right was farther than anything in recent memory) and two by John Garrity. "Big Mike" Mormino kept his streak going of multi-hit games. Chris Piccininni, Joe Lutz, and Denny "Ace" Oehl had big nights at bat. Last but not least, Frank "Quatro-Cinco-Seis" had three very timely shots for his best night yet. The team's condolences go out to John Garrity and his family over the death of his mother this past week.
