Always charge the ball and line up the throw... |
That's throwing from the knee... |
Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology (ZP) beat Bar-Boy 12-8 with timely hitting throughout the lineup and clutch late inning defense. Bar-Boy jumped to an early lead, but ZP answered in the first when Marc Fischer blasted a tape measure shot on the 90-foot field. The ball glanced off the left fielder and went over the fence for one of the longest homers anyone has ever seen at Allen Park. Fischer belted another homer in the 6th to give ZP the lead for good. Ira Berger also had a very hot bat with 4 hits on the night. Jerry Mazza added 3 hits, while Rich D’Amico, John DeFalco, Art O’Neill, Anthony Nicolich and pitcher Brian Tinney all chipped in with two hits each. Tinney helped his own cause with a pair of RBI’s. But for ZP, the play of the game was on defense. With Bar-Boy rallying the in the 9th, Bino Reverberi uncorked a perfect throw from deep in right center to nail a runner at 2nd. That throw and a spectacular stop by Pete Mendelson on the next play doused Bar-Boy’s momentum and gave ZP a big win.
Barco had one of their more memorable comebacks in their walk-off 17-16 win over Paradox Friday night. Paradox jumped off to a 13-1 lead after 5 1/2 innings before Barco was able to get back into the game, taking full advantage of the seven free passes that they received in the inning to score seven runs. Barco added five more in the 6th to even up the game at 13 with the big blow being Bob Bergstein’s bases clearing triple. Also adding RBI hits in the inning were Rick Pedone and Gary Jambor. Paradox retook the lead in their next at bat scoring three which Barco answered right back in their half on RBI hits from Dennis Ryan, Bill White and Rick Pedone. With the time limit becoming a factor, Barco was able to get out of a precarious situation without giving up a run which led to Dave Saur’s game winning hit in the bottom half. Dave Ringer had four hits for Barco while Dennis Ryan, Gary Jambor and Rick Pedone added three. Both Rick, Gary along with Bob Bergstein added 3 RBIs as well. Fortunately for Steve Jacobson, Terry McPartland is still unable to make the games, although it would have been good for Terry’s psyche to see Steve take another called third strike.
