Championship Finals
Round 7
[you submit it, we'll print it]
Singletons are the 2012 Reilly Cup champions after defeating LaCorte Family Auto in two tightly contested games on Friday evening October 26th. LaCorte forced a second game after winning game one 10-8 and Singletons responded by winning the deciding game 11-8. Both squads benefitted from good defense, good pitching, and some timely hitting - both games were total team efforts. The 2012 finals highlighted the increasing competitiveness and parity within the league. Thanks to Jim Reilly, the Board, and the folks at Allen Park for another excellent season.
LaCorte had a historic run in the 2012 tournament - the 12th seeded team with wins against each of the top 5 seeds. There is no doubt it will propel them into the 2013 season and the players from Singletons take their hats off to the players from LaCorte for their competitive spirit during the finals as well as the entire tournament.
Singletons continued an impressive run with their 5th finals appearance and 3rd championship in the last 6 years. The 2012 Singletons team consisted of Paul Canallatos, Bob Davis (manager), Nick Gadinis, Frank Gordon, Larry Greishaber, Steve Luccarelli, Jimmy McQuade, Tony Paccione, Dennis Passaretti, Steve Raifer, Alan Rapfogel, Gary Saccaro, Mike Sanders, Pete Scozzari, Rich Smindak, Tommy Sorrentino, and Bill Wenzel. We can't forget Rich Brancaccio, who has been a driving force behind this team for 27 years as a player and manager. Rich relocated out of state mid-season and handed over the reins to Bob Davis, who earned his first championship as manager. Lastly, we thank Frank Gordon, a team leader and true gentleman, who is retiring after 27 years on the team and will assist Bob Davis with managing the team next year.
