"Giving Jimmy The Homefield Advantage"
Annual OTHG Fundraiser

The Over the Hill Gang softball league would like to thank the Farmingdale community, dedicated volunteers and elected officials for making our annual fundraiser a huge success. It was one of the largest turnouts the league has seen as thousands of dollars were raised for Jimmy Ossenfort and his family. Jimmy is recovering from an auto accident. The night was a mixture of softball, music and neighborhood camaraderie.

Rick Kopitsch introduced Johnny Ray who entertained the crowd with delightful music all night. Farmingdale American Legion Post 449 presented the Colors as Kara Minnichiello sang the National Anthem. Legislator Joe Belesi and Town Councilman Tony Macagnone were also in attendance. League President Jim Reilly thanked the players and Volunteers for their contributions.

The OTHG Charity Committee is led by Christine Restani , Nancy Maghakian, Sami Maghakian, Kathrine Winkler, Marty and Liz Teturris , Joe and Vicki Cordi, Ed Reilly, Jillean Reilly, and Mike Colecchia. Thanks also to many young volunteers who served pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, peanuts and soda. More than 70 prizes were handed out to lucky winners including Bar Boy manager Ken Kohlman who won the 55 “ Flat Screen TV. Finally, the league thanks John Venditto and the Town of Oyster Bay for The Show Mobile as well as Allen Park manager Bill Murray, Asst. Kathy Graham and their staff led by Chris Lopinto and Ian Kornfeld.

Player of the Week Feature

Congratulations to BK Sweeney's first baseman Kevin Brosnan. He is the latest Over the Hill Gang Player of the Week. Kevin blasted two homers and a double while driving in 6 runs during BK's 22-7 win over Paradox Cafe. Paradox delivered Kevin the ultimate compliment, intentionally walking him in the 8th inning. The win lifts Sweeney's record to a league leading 13-1 .

7:00pm - Barco versus Zwanger Pesiri - 90ft field

It was another hot Friday night, but luckily the sun was not a factor in the 7 o'clock game between Barco Construction and Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology. Barco was looking to avenge an earlier season loss and it looked like that would take place when Barco scored 5 runs in the top of the first. However, ZP came right back and took the lead by scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the inning. It looked like it was going to be one of those back and forth games. Barco only had 10 men for this game. Barco sent 10 men up in the first inning, 8 men up in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings, and 10 men up again in the 5th and 7th innings. Barco's defense held ZP to only 3 runs the rest of the way while scoring runs in all but one inning for a final score of 29-10. There were a lot of hits this night highlighted by Gary Jambor, 5 for 6 andTerry McPartland 5 for 6. Dennis Ryan also went 5 for 6, and hit for the cycle. Everyone contributed up and down the lineup.

8:20pm - Paradox versus BK Sweeneys - 60ft field

Besides Player of the week Kevin Brosnan, a long list of batters joined the hit parade. With 3 hits each were George Moerler contributing 4 RBIs while Mark Hemminger, Johnny Longo and Jim Hickey had 3 RBIs. Jim Felicia had a  HR, 3b and 3 RBIs. Byron Bodine, Jack DeBobes, George Cohan, Joey Girimonte and Mike Magro chipped in two hits each. Outstanding pitching from Jim Hickey kept the hard hitting Paradox team off stride for most the game . Just another strong game in a season filled with a team effort put forward by each and every player week after week. Lets not forget an original player, Tom Fitzpatrick, retired this year, who comes down every week to keep score

8:20pm - Changing Times Pub versus Bar-Boy  - 90ft field

Veteran Bradley Krauss was the MVP for Changing Times as they got back on track with a wild 21-20 victory over Bar Boy. CT opened up with 11 runs in the first inning and were up 14-3 after 2. Bradley had 2 big hits when the game was tight and was stellar in right field, making a great catch over his shoulder with the game on the line. Other standouts included "Big" John Hughes, who contributed at the plate and in the field, and David Thornburn, who continued to be the catalyst in his usual leadoff spot. Bar Boy battled back to go on a 20-7 run over the next 5 innings but fell short with the tying run on third.  Brad caught the final out on a screaming line drive with the tying run on 3rd base.
