Congratulations to Autocraft's Brian Landy. He's the Over the Hill Gang's Player of the Week for Friday, June 29th. Brian went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 doubles producing 7 RBI's while scoring 4 times. He also made a key defensive play in left field throwing out an M&T runner at 3rd base for an inning and rally ending out.
After a weeks rest due to stormy weather, the well rested Autocraft team returned to its old form besting McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home 24 to 5 in 7 innings. M&T jumped out to an early 4 run lead but Autocraft bats responded by outscoring them the rest of the game. Denny Oehl pitched a gem as he walked no batters, struck out 3 and held the M&T team in check for most of the game. Autocraft played solid defense turning 2 double plays and Brian Landy assisted by throwing out a runner at 3rd base. In addition to Landy's power surge, Tom Vanasco and John Lakatos also hit 3-run home runs each and Chris Piccininni went his usual 4 for 4 as he leads the Autocraft team in hitting this year. Frank Quatromani had his 2 multi hit game as AGENT 99 continues to dink and dunk his way to a career year for the Over The Hill Gang League 2012 season.
Barco Construction continued its winning ways by beating the previously undefeated BK Sweeney's by a score of 19-5. Barco knew they had to have a good defensive showing to keep the high powered offense of Sweeney's in check. And that's exactly what happened. Great pitching again by Gary Jambor kept Sweeney's power hitters at bay and Barco's timely double plays ended Sweeney's rallies.
Barco started out the game by putting up 3 in the top of the first on Kevin Moloney's 3 run homer. That's 2 games in a row for Kevin showing his power. Sweeney's only managed 1 run in the bottom of the first and didn't score again until they scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th. By then, Barco had managed to score 7. In the top of the 6th, Barco answered with another 6 to go up 13-3. Sweeney's held Barco scoreless over the next 2 innings but was only able to score 1 run itself. In the top of the 9th, Barco scored another 6 to go up 19-4. Barco could not let up defensively based on Sweeney's reputation of coming up big in their last at bats, but they only were able to score another 1 run.
Barco's offensive leaders were Kevin Moloney,3 for 4 with 5 RBIs, Dennis Ryan 3 for 4, Brett Moritz 3 for 5 and Bob "Twinkle toes" Bergeson 3 for 3. Steve Jacobson is still icing down his shin after Geo Moerler's rocket shot ricocheted off his leg. Steve was told he is allowed to use his glove to defend himself instead of playing goalie.
