February 5, 2010 - Manager's Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Jim Reilly, Ed Cullen, Jerry Iavarone, Bruce Kubart, Mitch Maghakian, and Al Pallesci

Absent: Rich Brancaccio, John Falbo. Gary Jambor and Jerry Mazza

The board discussed the following topics:

  1. Meeting called to order by Jim Reilly at 7:40PM
  2. All 12 teams were represented at the meeting
  3. Jim Reilly discussed some of the comments he had received on completing the entire season, i.e., all 16 games. Jim indicated, that for several reasons, this was not possible last year. He did indicate that the OTHG always pushes to complete 16 games. We have season, rainouts and tournaments scheduled ahead of time.  Poor weather ruined our make up dates and all managers agreed previously that our tournament starts first free week in September.
  4. Ed Cullen read the minutes from the board meeting of 1-15-10. There was an open discussion on some of these items including:
    • no hitting up the middle (no manager support)
    • Mercy Rule changed from 18 runs to 15 runs (see below)
    • Touching home plate (you are allowed to touch without being out as long as you are not interfering with the catcher/fielder. Similar to regular rules about avoiding fielder during a play)
    • First Base - just running past bag (no manager support)
    • Trading players during draft (see below)
  5. The final registration date is 2-12-10 - player will be eligible for "preferential"
  6. August 6 is currently listed as a rain date. The Changing Times team will be unavailable on Fri, Aug 6th.  If there is a rain out game to be made up on Aug 6th, the Changing Times versus opponent XXX game will be rescheduled for either Wed, Aug 4th or Wed, Aug 11th. The League Charity Night and last game of the year will be held Fri, Aug 13th.
  7. Player fee is $140; Sponsor fee is $350; as in the past, each team should give Al Palleschi on marked envelope
  8. Rosters were handed out by Bruce Kubart
  9. Tentative team draft needs are as follows: Moby's 0, Autocraft 4, Mers 2, Granny's 0, M&T 3, LaCorte 1, Barboy 0, ZP 3, CT 2, Singleton's 0, L&N 5 and Barco 1. There is a total of 21 players needed.
  10. Mitch Maghakian noted the website is under re-construction and highlighted the 2010 configuration of the American and National Leagues based on last year's records
  11. Their was a discussion on new ways to conduct the draft with ideas for extra preferential picks, delegating draftees to "fielding position" buckets and league exemptions for poor performing teams.
  12. Several of the teams mentioned attendance issues with one or more players. Managers should handle directly or escalate the situation to the board if/when necessary
  13. The OTHG board will meet on 2-12 at 7:30PM to discuss some of the managers proposals re: #11 (above)
  14. Jim Reilly closed the meeting at 9:05PM
