Moby Drugs stayed hot Friday beating Mers Pub 18-7. The team came ready to play, combining great defense with plenty of hitting. Don Meritz’ pitching held down a very tough team. He had help from Henry Hasemann who had a fantastic game at shortstop. Leftfielder Vinny Misuraca made several outstanding grabs. The offense banged out 23 hits, including a pair of 7th inning triples from Hasemann and John Cafarella.
Barco Construction continued its fine start and play, going to 3-0, with a 17-11 victory over Zwanger Pesiri. This was another Barco game that started out as a close, low scoring affair, Barco lead 5-3 after five, before the bats from both teams heated up with Barco outscoring Zwanger 12-8 over the last two innings to ensure the win. Barco again had a balanced team attack as the offense was spread among 10 guys who had 2 or more hits. The heart of the line-up was the big gun this night as Russ Graham, Dave Ringer, Kevin Moloney and Dave Saur each had 3 RBIs. Dave Saur had a 2 run HR and Russ Graham a bases loaded triple among their 3 hit nights, Gary Jambor also contributed to the offense going 4-4. Barco’s defense continued to be steady and at times sterling as demonstrated by the play of outfielders Dave Ringer and James Widmer. Dave was especially impressive, making a sliding grab while wearing shorts (ouch). The team would also like to pass along congratulations to Jim Weilmann on becoming a grandfather.
ZP played a decent game, but was simply out hit by Barco. Karl Dessel led the offense with a homer and two more hits. John DeFalco blasted a long triple. Bino Alberevi, Rich D’Amico and Jerry Mazza had three hits each, while pitcher Brian Tinney had a pair of singles.
Autocraft extended its winning streak by beating Changing Times 26-12. On the mound, Richie Dargie pitched masterfully against a newly revamped CT team. Autocraft put together a hitting barrage with big nights from Aldo Balducci, Denny "Ace" Oehl, Joe "Mr. Steady" Lutz, Bob Cruickshank, and Brian Landy who each went 4 for 4. Landy showed his "warning track power" by hitting a one-hopper off the right center field fence on the 90-foot field! Also having multi-hit nights were rookie Mike Ferreti and Rich Dargie. The team wishes a speedy recovery to Bob Ceriello who went down from sniper fire when rounding second base. Also, the entire team sends condolences to the family of Al DeVine whose father recently passed away after an illness.
The late game between 2008 Reilly Cup winner Singleton’s and 2007 winner Granny O’Shea’s started out as expected with Singleton’s firing out of the gate with 7 quick runs in the 1st inning. After 5 innings with the score 14-3 in favor of Big Red, it became clear that Granny's just couldn't get things going against the pitching of Frank Gordon who pitched a gem of a game. In the end it was all Singleton's as they coasted to a 21-4 victory over the usually tough Granny O'Shea's team. Hot bats on the night were led by Benny Alberto (Alberto Designs), Tommy (Tino) Sorrentino, Richie Smindak and Tom (Satch) Camarda all with 3 hits each and contributing with 2 hits each were rookie sensation Nick Gadinis, Larry Grieshaber and Gary Saccaro.
