The Over the Hill Gang is once again gearing up for its annual charity fundraiser. Please save the date, Friday, August 7th at Allen Park. This year the league is teaming up with Long Island’s Greatest Hits radio station, B-103, to raise money for children with Down Syndrome. The evening’s festivities will include an appearance by radio personalities Wiseman and Frank, refreshments, a night of softball, a magic show and valuable raffle prizes. Everyone is welcome. It is a great night to spend some time with your friends and neighbors while raising money for a fantastic cause. It is also your chance to see if your neighbor across the street can really play softball!
Barco climbed back into the win column with a solid 19-6 win over a struggling O’Sheas. The Barco Boys jumped out to a commanding 7 run lead in the top of the first and never looked back. They added 3 in the 2nd and another 7 in the 3rd before O’Sheas was able to get on the scoreboard. Coming up big for Barco were Rick Pedone, who made 4 good catches in RF battling the blinding sun, and Kevin Moloney, who was pressed into playing SS and played flawlessly. Gary Jambor and Dave Ringer, each w/ 4 hits, led Barco offensively with Dave adding 3 RBIs. Adding to the offense were Rick Pedone with 3 hits and 3 RBIs and Bill White who drove in 4. The win for Barco was due again to another fine team effort as 9 players had RBIs and multiple hits. The victory was particularly impressive as the team was only able to muster 11 players for the game. The win gave Barco a 5-2 record and continued their rebound season from two off years.
Autocraft
held on in the last inning to beat the powerful, previously undefeated,
Moby team by the score of 14-9. The defense ruled the day with outstanding
play by John Garrity, supporting the usual mastery on the mound by Richie
Dargie. Garrity also hit a crucial home run at a time when Autocraft
needed it most. The team spread hits around the entire order to keep
Autocraft ahead from the first inning. Also adding key hits were Brian
Landy, Tommy Vanasco, Joe Lutz, Bob Huebner, and rookie Mike Feretti.
