Barco played another tight and exciting game, this time edging out Autocraft 12-10 and going 4-1 for the season. Barco jumped out to a sizeable lead, 10-3 after four, only to see their opponent for the 2nd week in a row have a big inning and get back in the game. But this time with a different result... Autocraft scored 7 in the 5th to tie the game but Barco came up with 2 more runs in the 7th while holding Autocraft scoreless their final three at bats to squeeze out the win. Helping out Barco was their infield defense, which turned two rally snuffing rallies late in the game. Offensively Steve Jacobson smacked a triple & HR with 3 RBIs and Russ Graham was 4-4 with a HR and 2 RBIs. They both lead the way for Barco. Also having good games were Dennis Ryan (4-4), Rick Pedone and Jim Weilmann (both 3-4). The Barco team wants to know where both Dave Saur and Russ Graham get their high socks & baggy shorts; they make such a fashion statement the team wants to emulate them both (not!).
Friday's early game on the 90' field matched Singleton's and Mers Pub, with both teams coming off a big victory the week before. Mers started strong and had the bases loaded, but the first of 4 double plays on the night ended a promising inning allowing only one run. Mers kept the lid on the scoring till the 3rd when the Big Red Bats exploded for 7 runs giving them a 7-1 lead. Mers managed to get within 4 runs, but over the next 3 innings Singleton's scored 14 runs pulling away for a 21-7 final. Hot bats on the night were led by Tommy ( Tino) Sorrentino who had 4 huge hits, and chipping in with 3 each were Larry Grieshaber, Gary Saccaro and Bob Davis. Also another fine effort on the mound from Frank Gordon who allowed only 7 runs to the potent Mers offence.
Zwanger Pesiri lost to Lacorte 9-6. Marc Fischer blasted a long homer and Jerry Mazza added a 3 run shot to keep ZP in the game. Rich D’Amico, Bino Alverberi and rookie John Hernandez all had two hits each, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Lacorte. Brian Tinney pitched well enough to win, but could have used a few more runs. ZP welcomes Tommy Dittmeier back and hopes he can jumpstart the offense.
Although the game between McCourt & Trudden and Changing Times ended in a tie (14-14), Changing Times played a good game. Danny Haas pitched a good game and also had 2 hits. Other Changing Times players contributing to the offense were: John Ochwat (3 hits), Dave Thorburn (2 hits), Ed Cullen (4 hits) Brad Krauss (2 hits), Anthony Porpora (2 hits), John Hughes (2 hits), Rob Bischof (3 hits), Jack Scherer (3 hits) and Greg Innes (3 hits). Changing Times and The Over The Hill Gang Softball League send their condolences to Bill Wahl (Changing Times) on the passing of his father. Mr. Wahl was a frequent fan at the Changing Times games and will be missed.
Moby Drugs is now 5-0 after beating beating Lockie & Nowachek Family Chiropractors 13 to 3. It is all about defense, defense, defense as Moby's entire infield is playing great, pitching is fantastic and they are backed up by tremendous catches in the outfield. At the plate, 23 hits including a 3 run, homerun hit in the first inning by Paul Nardone.
