7:00pm - Bar-Boy versus Moby Drugs - 60ft field

Defense, defense, defense, that’s the secret behind Moby Drugs’ perfect 6-0 record. Moby beat Bar-Boy 13-5 in a tremendous game. The entire team is playing a fantastic defense from the pitcher to the outfielders. At the plate Moby started out slow, but came alive in the third inning, with 6 singles and a few walks to take a 6-1 lead. Barboy came back scoring 4 runs off Moby in the top of the 4th to make it 6-5. But in the bottom of the sixth, Paul Nardone came through once again belting a grand slam to help Moby pull away.

7:00pm - McCourt & Trudden versus Zwanger Pesiri  - 90ft field

To say that Zwanger Pesiri started slowly in its game against McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home would be the understatement of the week. Of course, crafty pitcher Jack Brosnan should take some of the credit, but to go 4 innings without a runner reaching 2nd base in a softball game is ridiculous! Luckily for ZP, veteran pitcher Brian Tinney was also did a fantastic job in holding down the M&T offense. And he had plenty of help from his infield defense, especially Joe Algerio and rookie John Hernandez sharing time at 3rd base. Both started key double plays that helped get Tinney out of jams. Marc Fischer at short, John DeFalco, making a guest appearance at 2nd and Ira Berger at 1st also came to play. At the plate, ZP finally got it going in the 7th. Pete Mendelson, Vinny Ciullo, Jerry Mazza, Tyrone Clark, Karl Dessel, Tommy Dittmeier, Rich D’Amico and John DeFalco all strung together hits as the team scored 7 runs to take a 9-4 lead. ZP held on for a 9-8 win which made the post game field trip much more enjoyable. The entire team visited T-Ball and no one wanted to tell the Manager we lost. The guys spent several hours exaggerating about how well the team played and encouraging T-Ball to return as soon as possible.

8:20pm - LaCorte Family Auto versus Autocraft - 90ft field

Autocraft got back on track with a 23-10 win over a revitalized LaCorte Family Auto Service. Rich Dargie was rock solid on the mound with some fantastic defensive efforts behind him. John Garrity was terrific at short turning several double plays with Aldo Balducci at second. Bob “the Mechanic” Huebner blasted a homer at a time when Lacorte was close, and Benny Macchia hit a bomb to deep center that no one could get near. Ben also hit the shortest single of his career that stopped about ten feet from the plate. Also having good offensive nights were Brian Landy, Joe “Mr. Steady”Lutz, Aldo Balducci, and Denny “Ace”Oehl. In the late innings when it was key, Mike Mormino and Richie Dargie had hits to spark the team.

9:40pm - Changing Times versus Barco - 90ft field

Changing Times Pub (CT) continued its fine play with a come from behind victory over Barco Construction. Oh Baby! The game lasted 8 innings and the final score was 17-14. Jack Scherer pitched another fine game and received offensive support from John Ochwat (3 hits), Dave Thorburn (5 hits), Brad Krauss (3 hits), Jerry Iavarone (2 hits), Rob Bischof (2 hits), Anthony Porpora (2 hits), John Hughes (3 hits) and Danny Haas (3 hits). After 7 games, Changing Times season record is now 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. Lawn chairs once again to all the CT players!

Barco played another close game, something they’ve done each game so far this season. This time they came out on the losing end. Barco jumped out to an early lead with 4 in the 2nd on Kevin Moloney’s RBI hit and Dave Saur’s 2 run homer. They added another 4 in the 3rd on Russ Graham’s 2 run single, followed by RBI hits from Dave Ringer & Kevin Moloney. Barco then increased their lead to 14-6 after 4 but then their bats went ice cold for the balance of the game. In Barco’s 6 run 4th, Tony Ranieri drove in 2 along with Rick Pedone and Gary Jambor adding RBI hits. Unfortunately Barco let CT get back into the game giving up 6 runs in the 6th which CT topped off by adding another 4 late in the game to take the lead for good, which Barco was unable to answer. Barco’s record fell to 4-2 with the loss.
