7:00pm - Changing Times versus Lockie & Nowachek - 60ft field

Lockie & Nowachek Family Chiropractors eliminated Changing Times from the tournament with a 23-9 victory. The score does not tell the whole story. The game was real close for almost the entire game. It was not until L&N's final at bat that they were able to pull away. Ron Schwabe pitched a great game, spreading out the 9 runs, not allowing Changing Times any big innings. The Lockie & Nowachek Team's offense was powered by three home runs, Joe Auer and Ron Schwabe each hit a three-run home run, and Tommy Joseph hit a solo shot in the victory.

8:20pm - McCourt & Trudden versus Zwanger Pesiri - 60ft field

Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology advanced in Over the Hill Gang tournament play by beating McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home 25-9. All 16 players were in the lineup and all 16 got at least one hit. (Thanks to a late inning smash by Karl Dessel) The game started a little shaky with leadoff hitter Jerry Mazza inexplicably taking a third strike. But after that, ZP’s bats came alive. Vinny Foppiano belted a long triple, 1 of his 4 hits on the night. John Hernandez, Marc (welcome back) Fischer, Tommy Dittmeier, Bino Reverberi and Ty Clark followed with consecutive hits to give ZP a 3-0 lead. In the 3rd, ZP rallied for 9 runs. Rich D’Amico, Ira Berger, John DeFalco, Art O’Neill, Brian Tinney and Gene Hennigan all had key hits to keep the inning alive. M&T refused to quit, scoring 8 runs in the 8th inning. But ZP answered, Vinny Ciullo’s leadoff hit started an 8 run inning that put the game out of reach. There was also plenty of solid defense behind winning pitcher Brian Tinney. Ira Berger was sharp at third, with two spectacular stops in the same inning. Hernandez was steady as always at shortstop, teaming up with D’Amico and Pete Mendelson to force runner after runner at 2nd. It was a team victory in every sense, made even better with T-Ball in the dugout.

9:40pm - Paradox Café versus LaCorte Family Auto - 60ft field

Sometimes the cards get dealt and you end up with the same hand, which was the case this past Friday as Paradox Cafe and LaCorte Family Auto squared off for the second time in this year's Reilly Cup. LaCorte beat Paradox in the first game and now both teams were fighting to stay in the tournament where the next loss would send one team packing for the season.

Paradox opened the game with eight hits and 6 runs including RBI hits by Maghakian (3 hits, 2 RBIs), Balestrieri (4 hits, 3 runs), Hasemann (3 runs), Celeste (3 hits, 4 RBIs) and Newbeck (2 hits, 3 RBIs). In the bottom of the inning Bob Thompson went to the mound for Paradox with a badly pulled calf muscle that occurred the previous game against LaCorte. His family was in the stands rooting him on (shout out to Mike and Jen) as he fought through the night with a leg wrapped from heel to knee. In addition, Bob Kirk was coming back from a rib injury to help plug the hole at shortstop and Brian Mulcahy was fighting a bad leg. Paradox had come to play tonight... the question was, would they make it through the whole game.

After 3 innings, LaCorte had fought back to a 12-9 lead. The fifth inning had Paradox again jump ahead with 4 more runs thanks to strong performances by Carlin (5 hits,4 runs), Kirk (2 RBIs) and Nigro (4 for 4, two RBIs). LaCorte continued their tear as they scored 4 more in their half of the inning. Both teams were not giving an inch as the game marched into the 6th inning with LaCorte leading 16-13. Mulcahy then lead off the inning for Paradox with a single and Kubart ripped a triple to right center field for 2 RBIs. Balestrieri followed up with an RBI to tie the game at 16. The last inning found Paradox reaching deep as Innis reached base (2 hits, 1 run) and scored on another Nigro hit. Bob Thompson then smoked a shot in the gap to left center on a bad leg for 2 more crucial runs. The team was lifted by that shot and Carlin added 2 more to close it out. By the end of the inning, Paradox had batted around and ensured the victory with a final score of 24-17. Every player had gotten a hit and scored a run. As Paradox moves on next week, we can only hope all the old guys can heal quickly for the next game.
