It was a perfect fall night to play softball, cool but calm like a traditional fall classic evening. The 2 finalists, Barboy and Autocraft, did not disappoint those who came to watch. The final score was Autocraft 21 and Barboy 20. Each team played well and hit in the clutch, but in the end, Autocraft had the top of the order coming up in the bottom of the ninth inning. A lead off double by Aldo Balducci and a key hit by Benny Macchia, along with a sacrifice fly by Chris Piccinni scored Aldo for the win. Michael Ferretti, Autocraft's pitcher, controlled Barboy for most of the game holding them to 14 runs for a 20 to 14 lead going into the ninth inning. The never say die Barboy team answered with 6 runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game setting up the fantastic finish led by Aldo for the Autocraft team. Barboy took an early lead as it looked like there would be a second game. Autocraft responded with a big fourth inning to take the lead led by a grand slam by Auotcraft shortstop Don Simone as this was his second slam in back to back games. Barboy pitched around Autocrafts big hitter Brian Landy but Benny Macchia had 3 big hits behind Brian to keep the innings going. Auotcraft had a balanced attack with Bob Cruickshank going 4 for 4 from the 10 spot in the batting order. Over all, the Autocraft team was relieved to hold on for the win over the tough Barboy team to accomplish their goal of winning both the league title and the Reilly Cup tournament.
