9:40pm - Zwanger Pesiri Radiology versus Paradox Café- 90ft field

It wasn't raining this past Friday, but the humidity was unbelievable even for the late game where Zwanger Pesiri Radiology took on Paradox Cafe. Paradox came to the field with nine players and one wounded warrior, Bob Meyers. It was nice to see Bob at the field as he recovers from double knee surgery. The whole team wishes him well.

The first inning had Zwanger tag Paradox for 4 runs with a home run to the sparsely populated outfield. Paradox Cafe came back in the 1st inning as Mitch Maghakian led off with a solo home run to left field. The rest of the lineup caught fire with nine straight 2 out hits . Bob Thompson, Al Celeste and Gary Innes set the table. Mickey Newbeck then had a 2 run RBI single. Mike Hadnagy , Bruce Kubart and Bill Gonzalez each followed with RBI singles. Maghakian then had a two run triple and Lenny Balestrieri closed it out with an RBI single for a 9-4 Paradox lead. The next few innings had some nice fielding plays as Al Celeste ran down a few balls in left field and Billy Gonzalez plugged the holes at shortstop. In the fourth inning, Zwanger plated four more runs to cut the Paradox lead to 9-8. Celeste then doubled for Paradox in the fourth and Innes knocked him in with a double of his own. Kubart then knocked in another run for an 11-8 Paradox lead. The next two innings, Zwanger tied it with 2 and went ahead 12-11. They would have had a bigger lead except for some nice fielding plays. Thompson threw behind the Zwanger runner at first to catch him napping and Balestrieri ran a long way to snag a blooper in center field. In the 7th inning, Paradox's Celeste had an RBI single and Hadnagy had a SAC fly to help build a 14-12 lead heading into the last inning. As usual, the excitement built for Zwanger as they put two men on base and threatened to score. Paradox's Gary Innes then came up with the play of the game as he snagged a hot shot at third, stepped on the bag and threw off balance to first for a game ending double play. Paradox beat Zwanger 14-12.

ZP started strong with Vinny Foppiano’s 3-run homer, but was never able to overcome Paradox Café’s 9-run 1st. John Hernandez, Foppianio, Ira Berger, Richie D’Amico, Brian Tinney and Jerry Mazza all had multiple hits in the losing effort.
