7:00pm - Bar-Boy versus Autocraft - 60ft field

The final score was Autocraft 31, Barboy 26 and yes indeed there was a softball game played, although the score would indicate it might have been football. The weather was certainly more fitting for football as the wind and drizzle played havoc with the flight of the ball. Pitching was at a premium as both pitches struggled to find the strike zone leading to numerous walks on both sides which helped account for the 57 run scored. Mike Ferretti pitched the best he could as he held on for the win. Four double plays by Autocraft certainly helped in getting out of several innings. Autocraft had a big night from the top of there lineup as Aldo Balducci went 4 for 5 with 5 runs scored and hit a key 2 run homer over the fence. Denny Oehl followed as well with a 4 for 5 night with 4 runs scored and keyed a big 7 run rally with 2 outs in the 8th inning putting Autocraft ahead by 31 to 19. In that 8th inning, Brian Landy, also 4 for 5 for the night, had a 3 run homer over the fence. Chris Piccinnni had a big night with 3 hits including a home run and 4 runs scored as did Don Simone and John Garrity who each had 4 hits with key doubles in the 8th inning. Autocraft needed every run as a tough Barboy team did not go down easily rallying for 7 runs in the top of the ninth inning. The entire Autocraft team breathed a sigh of relief when this one was over and were thankful the game was won.

8:30pm - Zwanger Pesiri versus BK Sweeneys - 60ft field

BK Sweeney’s advanced to the 6th round with an impressive 29-11 win over Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology. ZP jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd with Bino Reverberi, Rich D’Amico, John DeFalco, Tyrone Clark and Pete Mendelson stringing together hits. After falling behind 10-4, ZP rallied in the 6th to take an 11-10 lead. Jerry Mazza, Vinny Foppiano and John Hernandez got the inning going and Tommy Dittmeier got the big hit, a 3-run, fence clearing homer. After that, it was all BK as they pulled away late in the game. For ZP, it was a disappointing loss, but a very successful season. After winning only 2 games last year, the team rebounded to win 8 in the regular season and another 3 in the tournament under the leadership of manager John DeFalco. Pitcher Brian Tinney did a fantastic job keeping ZP in every game. ZP is already looking forward to next season and the possibility that Tom “T’ Ball will take over as manager.
