8:30pm - Zwanger Pesiri versus Granny O'Shea's - 90ft field

This past Friday Zwanger Pesiri squared off against Granny O'Shea's as the Over The Hill Gang tournament finished up its 5th Round. Both teams were fighting to stay alive as they each carried one loss in the double elimination format.

ZP plated a quick run in the first and second while O'Shea's responded with 2 of their own.  Don Carlin helped Grannys out with his RBI single in the first along with a Bob Kirk SAC fly.  Both hitters would mirror each other with 3 RBIs on the night (2 RBI singles and a SAC).  The 3rd inning was the charm for O'Shea's.  The whole line up produced as Gary Innes and Al Celeste set the table with singles.  Eight RBI scoring singles later (including Kubart, Balestrieri, Maghakian, Thompson, Nigro, and Cohen) O'Shea's had built a 12-2 lead.  ZP kept chipping away at the score though with 7 runs over the next 4 innings.  Granny's defense was steady and dependable as the infield knocked down several shots (like the screaming liner to Thompson at first) and the outfield plugged the holes (like Mike Hadnagy's roaming catch in deep right and Balestrieri's jump on a liner up the middle).  All helped to limit the damage and keep O'Shea's ahead 15-9 heading into the bottom of the seventh.  Brian Mulcahy then delivered another single for the night as Walter Hasemann pushed a run across with his at bat.  Lyle Nigro then helped the cause as he blasted a shot to right center and cleared the bases with 3 more runs.  ZP would only get two more off of Gary Innes' steady pitching and O'Shea's moved on to Round 6 with a 19-11 victory.

O'Shea's says thanks to Bob Meyers as he continues to root the team on with his weekly visits.
