7:00pm - J Two Lounge versus Bar Boy - 90ft field

In the 7:00 game on the 90' field Bar Boy and J2 Lounge squared off in a tight game between two teams trying to stay undefeated.

Bar Boy jumped out to a 5 to1 lead, then increased it to7 to1 before J Two could get things going. Missing 3 of their top guys, J Two scored 4 runs in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th to take the lead.  Meanwhile, big John Leone kept J Two in the game with his pitching.  Some great defensive plays were turned in by Dave Nelson, Mike Anzalone, Chris Tuttle, Jack Brosnan and John Leone giving J Two Lounge time to get back in the game against a tough and determined Bar Boy team. Timely hitting all around for J2, especially the hot hitting of Robert Concessi who lead the way with a solid 4 for 4 night, helped them earn the 12-9 victory.

8:20pm – O'Shea's versus Synergy - 60ft field

The middle game of the evening had Granny O'Shea's squaring off against Synergy on the 60 ft. field.

The fireworks started early as O'Shea's first three batters, led by 25 year lead off veteran Bruce Kubart, all singled to reach base. The runs started scoring on a SAC fly by Bob Thompson (SAC and run scored), a single by Brian Mulcahy (3/4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored) and a 2 run single by Gary Innes (2/3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored). By the time they were through, Grannys had built a 6-0 lead. Synergy got on the board in the bottom of the first plating 2 of their own.

In the second inning, Mitch Maghakian (3/4, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored) hit a deep shot to left center that bounded off the top rail of the fence allowing him to score. The score was now 7-2 in favor of O'Shea's. A few runs were traded back and forth in the middle innings as strong defense by both sides slowed down the game. Gary Innes made an outstanding sliding catch in left center field to snub a Synergy rally while Jay Donovan grabbed a hot line drive over his head at second base to cool down another Synergy threat.

Heading into the 7th inning O'Shea's looked to stretch an 8-4 lead. The top of the order again set the table as Rob Kirk followed with a SAC fly. Mike Hadnagy continued his torrid start with a single and RBI and Walter Hasemann (3/4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored) pushed across two more with a two out single. After getting robbed by a nice catch in the gap the previous inning, rookie Lyle Nigro stepped up and delivered a clutch RBI single. Bob Meyers then chipped in with a single and Bruce Kubart closed the inning out with another RBI. Grannys now had a 15-4 lead.

The Synergy team looked like they were out of it, but not for long. The bottom of the the seventh had them battle back for 6 runs closing the gap to 15-10. Heading into the final inning, Grannys could not add to their lead. Synergy came up in the bottom of the eighth looking for more and found it. They scored five runs to even the score with one out. After intentionally walking two batters to load the bases, O'Shea's buckled down and grabbed the last two outs. The game ended in a 15-15 tie. Everybody will be looking forward to the next meeting of these two teams on June 27, 2008. Come down to the large field and root on your favorite team.

It's a tough choice when thinking about the game between Synergy and Granny O'Shea's. Was Synergy happier about tying the game after being down 11 runs with two innings to play, or Grannys by not allowing Synergy to score with the winning run on third with only one out. But that's the way it ended, tied 15-15. For Synergy, the biggest hit of the night was Tommy Vanasco's triple with the bases loaded in the last inning to tie it. Also having big hits when it was needed were Joe "Mr. Steady" Lutz, Al Devine, Bobby Ceriello, Aldo Balducci, and Richie Dargie. John Garrity hit one over the fence to inch Synergy a little closer. Defensively, Richie Dargie pitched like the veteran he is, and Tom Vanasco made three great catches in the outfield.

8:20pm - Barco versus Changing Times - 90ft field

Barco rebounded from last week’s tough loss in a big way as they thumped Changing Times 29-19 in a game that only went 6 innings (time limitations).

Barco jumped out to a big 14-1 lead after 2 ½ but CT responded with 8 in their half to make it a game. But CT could never fully catch up as Barco scored in every inning to pull away for good. Obviously there were many offensive stars (scoring 29 runs will do that). Barco was led by rookie Jim Hose who drove in 7 runs on his 4 hits. Not to be out done was Bob Bergsten who drove in 6 on his 3 hits which included a triple and a HR. Also having big nights for Barco were Tony Ranieri (4-4, 4 RBIs), Bill White (4-5), Steve Jacobson (6-6, 3 RBIs) and Kevin Moloney (3-3, 4 RBIs) which gave Steve Jacobson his first win as manager.

9:40pm - McCourt & Trudden versus Zwanger Pesiri - 90ft field

Zwanger Pesiri Radiology improved to 2-0 with an impressive 27-11 win over McCourt & Trudden.

George Eicher, Brian Tinney and Ira Berger were solid on the mound while Mark Fischer had a nice game at shortstop. Big John DeFalco took his lumps at 1st base, switched to 2nd and looked like Robbie Cano. But this game was mostly about offense. ZP scored in every inning but one, banging singles, doubles and homers. Fischer, Eicher and Tom Dittmeier all belted home runs. Dittmeier had five hits and has not made an out in two games. DeFalco, Fischer and Jerry Mazza had three hits each. Tom “T” Ball, Eicher, Pete Mendelson and Brian Tinney all had two hits apiece for ZP. It was great to see Joe Algerio back after a year on the DL and thanks to Rich D’Amico for coming down even though he couldn’t play.
