Over The Hill Gang announces Charity FundraiserThe charity fundraiser is all set for Friday, August 15th, 7:00 PM at Allen Park. Players, please return your raffle tickets and please encourage your friends and neighbors to come on down to raise money for a child who can really use some help. The grand prize this year is a 52 inch HDTV. 7:00pm - Moby Drugs versus Mers Pub - 90ft fieldMoby Drugs continues to have a great season, improving to 12-1 with a convincing 16-2 win over Mers. Once again, Moby’s defensive was very strong in the infield and the outfield as they held Mers to only 2 runs. Offensively, the bats were hot, smashing 30 hits. Starting off in the 1st inning was Jerry Nardone, with a homerun giving Moby a 5-0 lead. The hit parade continued with singles and doubles and at least one run scored every inning. In the 6th, John Cafarella belted a homer to give Moby a 14 run lead. 8:20pm - Hampton Air versus Synergy - 90ft fieldHampton Air is hot and on the move. Friday’s victory over Synergy was an example of the hitting machine regenerated. "Butch" Flecker (5 RBI’s) and Jerry Sutherland (4 RBI’s) were both was 5-5, while Chris Keep (5 RBIs), Tom Desantis, Tim Jones and Tom Giorelle all had 4 hits. DeSantis was big in left field and Mike on time "Quiggs" was also solid with the leather at 2nd base. Thanks to the walking wounded Ed Bernaur and Bill Camacho who were also on hand to show their support. Hampton Air beat Synergy 26-14. Synergy continued to struggle with their defense and attendance as only 10 players showed up, 3 of which played hurt. One still must give credit to the Hampton Air team who had their hitting shoes on as they pounded out 26 runs as they pulled away from the Synergy Team in the fourth inning. The Hampton Air team appears to be peaking at the right time as they truly played like a team committed to winning. Brian Landi hit a 2 run home run and Dennis Oehl had another 4 hit night for the Synergy team, who hopes to get their act together by playoff time. 9:40pm - Zwanger Pesiri versus Changing Times Pub - 60ft fieldZwanger-Pesiri finally got back in the win column with a 24-9 victory over Changing Times Pub. ZP scored in every inning with an impressive combination of extra base hits and singles. Marc Fischer belted the longest shot, a three run blast to deep left, one of his 3 hits on the night. The 4 hit club included Tom “T” Ball, George Eicher and Tyrone Clark. Tom Dittmeier and Brian Tinney had 3 hits each and Tinney was also very sharp on the mound. Karl Dessel, Pete Mendelson, Joe Algerio and Vinny Ciullo all had multiple hit on a good night for ZP. The team’s newly established “kangaroo court” hereby cites co-manager Tom “T” Ball for the worst base-running blunder of the night. But since T-ball had 4 hits, his fine was suspended. Special thanks to our newest scorekeeper, Daniel Eicher for a fine job with the book. (Makes writing this story much easier!) 9:40pm - Singletons versus Granny O'Shea's - 90ft fieldThe dog days of August started right on time as the hot, humid weather showed up for the night cap between Singletons and Granny O'Shea's. Singletons grabbed a quick lead in the first 2 innings, scoring 7 runs as O'Sheas dug a hole early. The bottom of the third had Gary Innes, Mike Hadnagy and Lyle Nigro set the table with bases loaded for O'Shea's. Bob Meyers had to leave the game for Grannys as he took a hard shot off of his pitching hand in the 3rd inning. Bruce Kubart then delivered an RBI single. Mitch Maghakian followed with a single for two more and Bob Kirk added a final RBI to cut the lead for Singletons to 7-4. It looked like O'Shea's was working their way back into the game but some mental errors let Singletons add 8 more runs in the 5th and 6th innings. By that time, not even some muscle by Lenny Balestrieri (2 run HR) and Lyle Nigro (3 run HR) could get Grannys back in the game. Singletons won 20-12.
