Over The Hill Gang Charity Fundraiser
The "Get On Deck For Daniela" fundraiser was the main event at Allen
Park this past Friday night. The whole OTHG league turned out as a full
schedule of games was played in the background. Family members of the
league and friends throughout Farmingdale and the area came to show
their support. Everybody had a good time as the cotton candy flowed
for the kids and the smell of pizza pies filled the air. The OTHG league
would like to thank everybody for their generosity and time in making
this fundraiser a huge success.
NOTE
August 22nd, 2008 was the make up date for the May 9th Rain Out.
7:00pm - Synergy versus Mers Pub - 90ft field
Mers continues to remain one of the hotter teams approaching the
end of the season by beating Synergy 27-10 in just seven innings. Mers,
which was 1-4 after week 7, has only lost once since the end of May.
The team got out of the gate quickly against Synergy scoring 12 runs
in the first inning by sending 16 batters to the plate. Mers infield
play was excellent turning three double plays thus denying Synergy any
big innings. All the infielders this night played out of normal position
since the team had only nine players, but played those positions almost
flawlessly. The outfield play was superb considering Mers had to just
play three outfielders instead of the normal four. Mike Magro was perfect
patroling centerfield while also going 5 for 7 in the leadoff position.
George Cohan and Kevin Brosnan did great jobs on either side of Magro.
The Mersmen rapped out 39 hits and that was with the game being halted
for time in the seventh inning while Mers batted in the bottom of that
inning. Jim Fileccia led the team at the plate and continues to remain
extremely hot going 6 for 7. Byron Bodine, who sparkled at second base
turning those three double plays, joined Magro going 5 for 7. Rookie
John Longo has really found his hard hitting stroke, and along with
Tom Vella and George Cohan, went 5 for 6. Joe Fanning pitched a solid
game and went three for five at the plate while Joe Girimonte was 3
for 6. Cohan led the team with 7 RBIs while Magro had 5 and Longo 4.
The win puts Mers current record at 7-5-1 which sets them up well for
the tournament.
8:20pm - Zwanger Pesiri versus Bar Boy - 60ft field
Zwanger-Pesiri played one of its best games of the year to beat Barboy,
16-10. Brian Tinney was spectacular on the mound holding down a tough
lineup and snaring at least six hard grounders and line drives. At the
plate, no one was better than Tom Dittmeier. He had two homers
and a double for 6 RBI’s. John Defalco was clutch as well with a pair
of two out RBI hits. Rich D’Amico was a perfect 4 for 4, while Jerry
Mazza had 3 hits. Rounding out the offense with a two hits each were
Tom “T” Ball, Tyrone Clark and Pete Mendelson. Ira Berger had a nice
scoop at first, while Tyrone Clark took one for the team using his forehead
to stop a bad bounce at short. Rumor has it that one of our top players
, K.D., spent the evening at an 80’s concert, possible wearing a lesiure
suit?
9:40pm - J Two versus Barco - 60ft field
In a close, see-saw contest, Barco emerged the victor over J-Two
12-11, pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. The
winning rally was started by Steve Jacobson who led off with a single
then aggressively advanced to 2nd on a fly out before Terry McPartland
drove him home on a hit up the middle to culminate Barco’s exciting
win. This was one of Barco’s better efforts for the year, playing well
both offensively and defensively. Coming up strong offensively were
Dave Saur, James Widmer and Bob Diamond but especially Dennis Ryan who
had a triple and a HR.
